Foot massage therapy session

treatments

The basics

Reflexology involves applying controlled pressure to specific points on the feet by the therapist's hands and fingers, in order to treat the parts and systems of the body which are out of balance, and not working as well as they could.

Reflexology rebalances the body best through the feet, although clients can also be treated very  effectively through their hands if that is more suitable or a preferred option.

Treatments can be given while the client is reclined in the treatment chair, or in their own seating. Only the feet are uncovered, and the therapist sits facing the client. If hands are being treated instead, the therapist usually sits alongside the client.

An hour should be allowed for  a 45-50 minute treatment, although  treatments of 25 minutes  are more suitable for some clients, including younger children, older persons, and people with certain long-term conditions. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Before any treatment is started, new clients begin with a thorough health consultation, for which an extra 30-40 minutes should be allowed.

Next steps

If there are no contra-indications to reflexology, a plan is made in agreement with the client, which may involve a series of regular treatments.

However, there is no obligation to book more than one treatment at a time, or to attend on a regular basis. Ad hoc treatments can still give many health benefits to the client.
